PhysicsWorld: Göttingen in top ten publications of the year

No. 40.5 - 16.12.2025

Journal includes “weather map for a gas giant exoplanet” in its list of the best

PhysicsWorld has included a publication by the University of Göttingen in its list of the ten most important breakthroughs of 2025. In January, an international research team led by the Institute for Astrophysics and Geophysics published research about the weather on the exoplanet “WASP-127b”. The discovery helps to better understand the atmospheres of planets outside our solar system.

Every year, the editors of PhysicsWorld select their ten most important scientific physics papers of the year. The selection criteria includes: progress in terms of knowledge or understanding, the significance of the work for scientific progress or the development of practical applications, and the general interest for PhysicsWorld readers. The “Breakthrough of the Year” will be chosen from the final round of the top ten on Thursday 18 December 2025.
