Application for an Erasmus+ Semester Abroad in Winter Semester 2025/26 or Summer Semester 2026
The most important information about the current application round for the Erasmus+ program can be found in the official Erasmus+ call for applications. Additional details and answers to the most frequently asked questions have been compiled below.
What are the requirements for an Erasmus+ stay?
Bachelor:
At the start of the semester abroad, a completed orientation phase is required. Students in a dual-subject bachelor's program should have successfully completed the mandatory modules in Economics. Participation in the mobility program is generally possible from the 3rd semester onwards.
Master:
No additional requirements.
Language Requirements:
- English / Spanish / Portuguese / French: B1 at the time of application at the faculty.
- Other languages: A2 at the time of application at the faculty.
- Possibly higher language requirements: Must be met one month before the start of the program (please check the requirements of the host university).
Proof of language proficiency must be provided for the language of instruction. At least 50% of the courses must be taken in this language.
Valid language certificates for each application phase are published in the official Erasmus+ call for applications.
When is the application deadline for the next academic year (Winter Semester 2025/26 and Summer Semester 2026)?
The application deadline is January 31, 2025.
Where can I find information about the number of spots available at each partner university?
All information about the number of spots and study levels can be found on our website for the respective partner universities.
How can I check if my current language certificate is valid?
If you have passed a ZESS language course, the transcript of records will suffice as proof of language proficiency. Other language certificates are also accepted if they are not older than three years and specify the language level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). To confirm whether your university entrance qualification is sufficient as a language certificate and to view a list of other accepted certificates, please refer to the appendix of the Erasmus+ call for applications.
How do I register for a DAAD language certificate?
The easiest way is through the ZESS website. Please note that appointments must be scheduled in advance.
How should I write my motivation letter?
In the MoveOn application portal, there is a free-text field for each of the three sections. The motivation letter is evaluated, so it is important to ensure that it is complete and compelling. For each section, we recommend a length of half a page to a maximum of one page (equivalent to 400 words).
To whom should I address my motivation letter?
Feel free to address it directly to us ("WiWi Erasmus+ Team").
Do I need to apply separately for funding?
No. When you apply for a semester abroad through the Erasmus+ program, your application automatically includes funding. Please note, however, that acceptance for a spot does not automatically guarantee funding. Binding information on funding approvals and amounts is expected in June.
If monthly funding is guaranteed, how much will I receive?
Funding rates are categorized by country groups and set annually. Depending on the country group, you will receive between €330 and €600. Additionally, you may qualify for social top-ups, e.g., as a first-generation student or if you travel sustainably. More information about funding can be found here.
Will my chances of securing a spot decrease if I have already completed a semester abroad?
Our goal is to provide as many students as possible with the opportunity for international mobility. Therefore, applicants who have already participated in a mobility program through the WiWi faculty in their current study phase will be given lower priority. However, depending on the selection of the partner university, a second mobility is generally possible but should be well-integrated into your study plan to ensure it remains beneficial for your studies.
When will I be informed whether I have been accepted for a semester abroad?
You will receive a response from us via your student email address by the end of February or early March.

Choosing the right partner university is probably the most important step for your application, so we would like to give you a few tips below:
You should first consider what your main motivation for a semester abroad is:
- Would you like to choose a particular specialization that is particularly renowned at one of the partner universities, or for which a particular university offers a particularly large number of courses?
- Would you like to improve your language skills in a specific language or learn a new language? Important: Many partner universities allow you to study in English, so a stay in an English-speaking country is not a must in order to improve your English skills.
- Are you particularly interested in a country where you see your academic or professional future and would therefore like to get to know the local culture and life?
Be clear about your motivation and then find out which universities offer you the best opportunities. Look out for a suitable range of courses and the language and subject requirements listed for each partner university. Not all universities are suitable for all degree programmes - so take enough time to find out about the courses on offer and already recognized courses at our faculty in the FlexStat Anerkennungsdatenbank (Abfrage: 336).
- Information on studying
Which information should be entered under “Number of completed semesters you have studied at universities in Germany and abroad at the time of application*” compared to “Current semester*”?
This refers to your period of study, i.e. all semesters completed at a university to date. As these are completed semesters, the current winter semester should not be included. If you are not sure about the correct information, you can download your “Studienzeitbescheinigung” from eCampus under SB functions. - Planned exchange location
Before applying, you should think carefully about the semester in which you would like to go abroad and when the semester fits best into your course of study. Please check the experience reports and the websites of the partner universities to see whether suitable courses are offered in both semesters for your degree program. If you are offered a place, it is theoretically possible to change your period of stay until the end of April.
Can I initially apply for one semester and extend it by one semester if I like it abroad?
If you are thinking of going abroad for a longer period of time, you should apply for two semesters from the outset. An extension after the application deadline is not possible at all partner universities and if so, then only without the monthly Erasmus+ grant.
What should I select under “Erasmus Program” - Business Administration or Economics or my own degree program?
Please select the program you would like to apply for.
What is the “ISCED Code”?
The ISCED code is an Erasmus+ specific code for the subject area you are applying for. If you have selected the “Erasmus program”, the correct code will be suggested automatically.
I don't yet know exactly when the semester starts and ends at the partner universities. What should I enter for the start and end dates?
You can find the semester dates on the website or in the fact sheet of the respective partner university. If the current semester dates have not been set yet, you can refer to the dates from previous years.
Why is it important to specify the mode of transport?
For sustainable travel, the Erasmus+ program offers additional funding through the Green Travel Top-Up. - Submitting the Application
I have already submitted my application, but I just remembered something. Can I add it later?
Before the application deadline please contact erasmus@uni-goettingen.de.
The partner universities of the faculty in the Business Administration (BWL) and Economics (VWL) programs, as well as all important prerequisites and reports from students, can be found below:
In addition to the spots in the Business Administration (BWL) and Economics (VWL) programs, there is the opportunity to apply through the central call for applications by Göttingen International for the following two universities. The application is made via a separate form in the application portal, and the exact requirements can be found in the linked call for applications. Belgium, Ghent University
- Website for exchange students
- WiWi students can participate in the "Exchange Programme in Economics and Business Administration" at Ghent. 80% of the English-language modules are offered at the Master's level.
- Bachelor students should have completed 120 ECTS before starting the semester abroad in order to participate in advanced Bachelor and early Master courses. Suitable modules are offered for both Business Administration and Economics students.
- At the Master's level, the English-language courses are suitable for students in Management and FRS, as well as in International Economics. The "Data Analytics" focus in the Master's program "Business Engineering" might be of interest to students in Business Informatics. Due to the Double Degree program in FRS there is a fitting curriculum especially for this program.
- Website for exchange students
- Academic calendar: Winter semester 2025/26: 01.09.2025 - 18.01.2026, Summer semester 2026: 19.01. - 07.07.2026
- Suitable modules for WiWi students are offered at the Faculty of Social Sciences. For example, there are departments for Economic History, Business Studies, Economics, and Statistics. The course offerings for exchange students can be found here
- At the Bachelor's level, there are mainly suitable courses in Management, Statistics, and Development Economics. Therefore, the offerings are suitable for both Business Administration and Economics students, though there are fewer relevant modules for Business Informatics students.
- At the Master's level, the course offerings are particularly interesting for students in International and Development Economics, Applied Statistics, Management, and History of Global Markets. The module offerings in the summer semester of 2024 were larger than in the winter semester of 2024/25.
